Day 13 – Your least favorite song

“Let It Go” from Frozen (2013)

Image result for let it go from frozen

It was symbolic in the movie. I downloaded it on my phone. Now, I can’t stand to listen to it. Idina Menzel is a good singer, don’t get me wrong. But give me a song from Wicked any day. Not this.

“The Mob Song” from Beauty and The Beast (1991)

This song. It struck absolute fear in me. Every scene associated with this song is hate-filled, angered, and frightening. But, at the same time, it’s one of the most memorable ones I know.

Samantha Saves The Day: A Summer Story

  • I read all of Samantha’s books first. I love the lake and forest setting of Piney Point!

Sarah, Plain and Tall

  • This is one of the first chapter books I remember reading in elementary school.

Save Karyn: One Shopaholic’s Journey to Debt and Back

  • I found this gem at a thrift store several years ago. It was a very interesting and insightful work on shopping, lifestyle, debt, and gaining your life back.

The Sky’s The Limit: My Journey with Maryellen

  • As much flack as American Girl has received for revamping their books, I like the choose-your-own-adventure books for the historical characters. It’s fun! Maryellen and her world remind me a lot of my mom, who grew up in Florida.

smashed

Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood

  • I’ve had this book for half of my life. I found it at a thrift store on a whim. I’ve re-read it at least three times since then. It’s a sobering (no pun intended) story about alcohol and its effects on one woman, coupled with statistics and stories about underage drinking that will scare anyone straight.

18580

Summer of My German Soldier

  • I think this was one of the summer reading books in middle school? I didn’t like it the first time, but I re-read it a few years later. It’s one of the better middle-grade historical novels I’ve read.

A Stand for Independence

A Stand for Independence: A Felicity Classic 2

  • Al bought me the first two Felicity BeForever books for my birthday. I loved the original Felicity books growing up, especially since her world is set in Colonial Williamsburg.

Stars Stripes and Surprises

Stars, Stripes, and Surprises: A Molly Classic 2

  • I’ve raved about Samantha and Felicity, but Molly has always been my favorite character from American Girl. Her BeForever books were no different, transporting me back to 1944.

Stepping on the Cracks

  • I devoured Mary Downing Hahn’s books when I was younger. This is another WWII-era novel, and a powerful one.

Story of a Girl

  • I was assigned to read this as part of my Young Adult Literature class in college. I loved it.

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter ā€œSā€:

The Secret History

  • I’ve heard about this book several times.

Sense and Sensibility

  • One of these days, I will be able to claim I’ve read everything by Jane Austen.

24765

Specials (Uglies #3)

  • I read Uglies in my Young Adult Literature class. I’ve wanted to read the rest of the books since then.

22232

Stargirl

  • I remember trying, and failing, to read this book many years ago. I think it’s time I pick it up again.

102868

A Study in Scarlet

  • How I can turn down Sherlock Holmes?

What books have you read, or want to read, that start with the letter S? Let me know!

Day 11 – Your favorite love song

“Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from The Lion King (1994)

Image result for can you feel the love tonight

I’m pretty sure this is one of the first songs I memorized from a Disney movie. My parents still have The Lion King soundtrack on CD, and I have fond memories of listening to it and singing along with my mom in the car.

This is one of those songs that gives me chills at the start. I’m pretty sure I learned to play it in orchestra class at one point, too. It’s hard to believe this year is the 25th Anniversary of the movie!

This is one of the most fun and entertaining Disney songs. It’s a feast for the eyes, too. And, it’s Robin Williams, for heaven’s sake. I miss his talent every day.

My parents still have the VHS copy of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) This was the movie I watched over and over when I was younger. I know I had a Snow White dress, and I daydreamed about living in the forest and taking care of all the animals.

As a girl, I wanted everything that Snow White had: The cottage in the woods, the pretty dress, the singing voice, the animal friends. The dwarfs were mostly sweet, but quite a handful! I was scared of her stepmother, the Queen, and the dark scenes. I don’t remember having nightmares over it, but it still scared me every time I watched it.

Jafar!

Aladdin (1992) is by far one of my favorite Disney movies. I watched it over and over as a kid, and my parents still have the VHS tape.

If I remember correctly, Jafar was one of the first characters that I was truly scared of. His voice got into my head, and I had a few nightmares, too.

I didn’t know who Jonathan Freeman was for years, but his voice haunted me. I hated how mean and evil he was! In my younger years, I recognized pretty quickly that he was greedy, power-hungry, and wanted Princess Jasmine all to himself. Not cool!

I remember watching The Return of Jafar (1994) a few times, and I think we had it on VHS. But it wasn’t as great as the original movie.

I think he is one of the best characters Disney has created. I can’t imagine anyone else voicing him other than Eddie Murphy. Mulan (1998) is one of my favorite Disney movies in large part due to Mushu.

I mean, this BuzzFeed article title says it all:

“Dishonor on you! Dishonor on your cow!”

“Bouncing is what Tiggers do best.”

I loved watching re-runs of The New Adventures of Winnie the PoohĀ (1988-1991) TV episodes when I was younger. I remember wishing I had a tail like Tigger, although I certainly did my share of bouncing around.

I haven’t seen many of the animated movies, but I did see The Tigger Movie (2000) after its theatrical release. Most recently, I saw Christopher Robin (2018) in theaters with Al and two of our friends. It’s one of the best movies I saw in 2018. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it (but have tissues handy!).

I loved The Incredibles (2004) and Incredibles 2 (2018). If you haven’t seen the sequel, I highly recommend it. It’s not as good as the original, but it was worth the 14-YEAR WAIT.

Lucius Best, a.k.a. Frozone, is one of my all-time favorites! He’s smooth, funny, and awesome! His moves look, ha, incredible, in both films.

“Where is my super suit?”

Hahahahahaha!
