J.N. Cahill

  • We became friends on Facebook earlier this year, after I joined a group called The Book Drunkard. She’s a talented writer, loves reading, and her blog is really cool.

Didi Oviatt

  • Didi is my kind of woman! She’s smart as a whip, funny as hell, and an amazing mother! She posts the best WIP writing prompt challenges every month. Can’t wait to do the August one soon!

The Tony Burgess Blog

  • Tony’s a great guy, and an even better writer. His daily entries give me insight in his world in Tennessee, his thoughts about his family, faith, and more.

Charis Rae

Laura Beth’s Answers

Have you ever read a book in another language? If yes, which one? *

  • Never a full book, although I took Spanish for six years. So my answer is no.

What is your best solution for a reading slump? *

  • Read something light and fluffy. For me, that’s a romantic book, or even something middle-grade. That’s helped me several times. I tend to be drawn to books set at the beach, if the images are any indication.

If you could only read one author forever, who would it be and why? *

  • Only one?
  • As hard as this was to pick, I’ll go with John Grisham. He’s a prolific writer, and most everything I’ve read from him is entertaining.

Which book do you think would make the best video game? *

  • Excellent question!
  • To me, I think Ender’s Game would be great!

If the place you lived in could only experience ONE season forever, what season would you choose?

  • Autumn!
  • I love the cooler weather, and the fall colors are just spectacular!

If you could live in any sitcom, which would it be?

  • The first sitcom that came to mind was Full House.

If you could INSTANTLY become an expert in something, what would it be?

  • This was a really hard question!
  • I think I would pick forensic science. I love true crime! And, I’ve seen every single episode of Forensic Files.

If you were a member of a circus, what type of performer would you be?

  • A trapeze artist. I’ve had the opportunity to try it out once or two, and it’s such a rush. As long as I have a net under me, I’m game.

What’s your FAVOURITE book-to-movie adaptation?

Image result for the hunger games movie

  • The Hunger Games (2012)
  • I’ve read all three books, and seen all the movies. However, I love the first movie. I think it was the best at doing the book the most justice. Plus, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss is kick-ass, and the book character-actress portrayal I never knew I wanted. The rest of the cast is well-picked, too.

What type of literature do you prefer the most? Why (i.e. poetry, fiction standalone, fiction series, nonfiction standalone, nonfiction series, plays/dramas, short stories, etc.)?

  • Fiction standalone. I’ve discovered so many different authors this way! Plus, I always get sad when series end, so standalones are in a way easier, and more enjoyable, to read.

You are the main character in a novel — who’s your sidekick / partner in crime and why?

  • My best friend, Melissa. We’ve been partners in crime for over 20 years now!

Blog Awards #25: The Real Neat Blog Award

The Real Neat Blog Award

I was honored to be nominated for the The Real Neat Blog Award by Kristian, the lovely and talented author of Life Lessons Around The Dinner Table. Thanks, Kristian!

Here’s Kristian’s post, where I was nominated:

The guidelines for accepting the Real Neat Blog Award are pretty straightforward:

  • Answer the seven questions posed to you
  • Gift 3 bloggers
  • Pose a further seven questions

Kristian’s Questions

1. What do you think are the 5 most beautiful things on earth? Why?

  • Sunrises / sunsets – I’ve been fortunate to witness several magnificent sunrises and sunsets in various places throughout the world. They are, in my mind, one of the best examples of God’s creation and beauty.
  • Flowers of all kinds – Despite the pollen, I love flowers. All of them are unique and beautiful in their own way. I love visiting different botanical gardens to bask in their splendor.
  • The ocean – This is one of the things that soothes me greatly. Although I’m not much of a beach person any more, I love seeing the ocean, listening to the waves, and smelling the salt air.
  • Cardinals – Virginia’s state bird is the northern cardinal, and the red male is one of the most beautiful and stunning creatures on this Earth.
  • Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin – I’m a Green Bay Packers fan ’til I die. I look forward to the day I get the opportunity to visit this historic place, and watch my Packers play on their home turf.

2. What’s your idea of the perfect day?

  • Enjoying a delicious breakfast, with at least one cup of coffee in the morning, if not two. No chores! Having time to enjoy my six American Girl dolls, changing their clothes and doing their hair. Writing in my journal. Taking a walk in my neighborhood, either with Al or our dogs, ideally all three. Enjoying either lunch or dinner out with Al as a date. Then, ending the day with a nice dinner, a good beverage, and watching a movie or two, snuggled on the couch next to Al and our dogs on our laps.

3. How do you recharge?

  • “Unplugging” from my electronics. I love reading, writing by hand, enjoying my American Girl dolls, and pastel painting.

4. If money didn’t matter, what would your dream job be?

  • A novelist.

5. What’s something you haven’t done, but have always wanted to?

  • Traveled somewhere on an Amtrak train.

6. Which fictional character do you most identify with?

  • Hermione Granger!

7. What’s your favorite joke?

Helvetica and Times New Roman walk into a bar.

“Get out of here!” shouts the bartender. “We don’t serve your type!”

Simon’s Questions

  1. What inspires your blog?
  2. Have you been writing since you were a child? If not when did you start writing?
  3. What is your favorite blog and why?
  4. What are you most passionate about?
  5. Do you draw inspiration from everyday ordinary occurrences?

My Answers

  1. I love writing. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was 10-years-old. Also, I had to create a blog for one of my communications classes in college. That blog inspired me to continue my journalism endeavors, and share my own thoughts, passions, and goals along the way.
  2. I kind of answered this in #1, but yes. I filled notebooks and tons of loose-leaf paper with journal entries, stories, and more. I wish I hadn’t thrown many of them away when I was an embarrassed teenager. However, I still have the dark blue three-ring binder with a variety of typed and hand-written short stories from age 10 through high school.
  3. I can’t pick just one. Nope, can’t do it!
  4. Excellent question. I think I’m most passionate about helping others. I love engaging with people, and problem-solving. A lot of my paths in life have gone this way, and the journey continues.
  5. Absolutely. I particularly take note of nature and natural elements around me.

  2. Do you remember what inspired your very first blog post?
