I don’t remember when I stumbled upon this link, but it must have been earlier this year.
Here’s the link:
At first glance, looking at it, I was filled with excitement and dread. FIVE YEARS? Wow. That’s a LONG time!
But, I like the idea of it. It reminds me of my parents and their logs. My mom still writes in a notebook almost every day, recounting the day’s events. Then, they have boxes of red-bound books with logs of years past. I didn’t read them much as a kid, but as I got older, I enjoyed reading pieces of them, especially Dad’s. He crammed his neat all-capitalized print into every line of every page!
I can’t remember a time when I haven’t journaled, in some way. I always have pen and paper with me. My journaling has evolved and changed over the years – From just regular paper, to spiral notebooks, to loose-leaf in binders, to legal pads, and mini-notebooks. Now, most of mine is electronic, with the blog and all. But, I value my handwriting and I enjoy writing in cursive, so I’m considering this “five-year journal” endeavor for 2017!
I like the prompts idea. I may go that route.
At the same time, several of my journals have contained random ideas and thoughts, and some of those have turned into story ideas. So, who knows where this may lead!
I already have a potential notebook in mind!
What do you guys think?
Do you journal?
Do you consider your blog a journal?
Until the next headline, Laura Beth π
I think you should do it!
Thank you!
Go for it! I have about 5-10 different journals and none of them are filled, but they all have random thoughts and ideas. This might be a good way to finally fill them, lol
Awesome! I love the idea. It’s just intimidating!
It is! But we can do it! I believe in us!hehe
Haha, me too!
Yes, definitely do it.
I love journalling. It is a fun and creative way to express what’s on your mind and I love the idea that one day my kids will look back (hopefully, lol) and re-live some of my days with me.
Finding prompts for new interesting things is always my dilemma.
Thank you so much for your encouragement! I really appreciate it. The more I think about it, the more I like it.
It sounds like a great idea! You should go for it! Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the prompts for all 12 months are still on the website, but I’m sure there are tons of other places you can get prompts. π
Thank you so much! That’s why we have Google, haha!
Oh for sure! I think WordPress even has some blogs dedicated purely to prompts.
I have a few prompt books on my Amazon Wishlist… only because I prefer handwriting posts first & because I love books. LOL π
Excellent! I’ll have to check those out. Thanks!
I hope you’ll share some of your responses on here!! π
Absolutely!
So, I was looking through my writing folder where I saved all the websites I found that were interesting. I found that I have a journal-prompt website! You can choose at random which prompt you wanna use separated by day of the week.
Would you like the link? I know Google is readily available, I just saw it & thought of you. π
Ooooh, yes, please!! Thank you for thinking of me!
My pleasure. Just hover your mouse over the little stars & a random prompt comes up (I kept trying to click on ’em & wondered why it didn’t work; that’s the only reason I’m mentioning it! lol)
Some of them seem a little bit negative (like, “What do you want to change about your life,” “What are your biggest faults,”), but I think it’s neat. (You’re under no obligation to think the same, of course lol). π

You’re awesome! Thank you so much!
You’re so very welcome! I look forward to reading your journal entries (where ever the prompts come from)! π
Awesome! Thank you, as always, for being so supportive of my writing!
You’re so very welcome! What are friends for if not to support one another? π
Exactly!
I used to write a diary daily all through teenager hood and my Grammy kept a running log of interesting, funny things, visitors etc. So great to read back on those. I’ve tried journaling again many times since but don’t seem to get very far. A few weeks or months and I miss a couple, and then more, and I give it up. I need to get in the real habit. Prompts could be a great thing. I might set my sights at one year though.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Prompts have helped me quite a bit with the blog, so I figure that it may help with a regular journal, too.
I love the idea of this. I use to journal daily, but got out of the habit. I think you should go for it! I just might join you, if you don’t mind! Since 5 years is intimidating, maybe you can break it down & just try it for one year, and go from there? Just a thought.
Thank you so much! I’ve gotten loads of encouragement. I’m definitely going to do it. I have a notebook in mind already – I plan to share it in January. I like your idea! And I don’t mind at all – The more, the merrier!
Not once, not twice but countless times, I tried to maintain a journal and failed. But none of the failure turned my spirits down. In fact after reading this post of yours, I am yet again, all set to get started. So thanks Laura for writing this down.
And my blog is far from being my journal. I don’t consider myself strong enough to be an open book in front of the whole world. Maybe one day, but not today.
So I prefer writing down in my diary (which I bought in January of 2016). And probably today’s night will mark another start towards maintaining a journal. π
I’m so excited for you! Thank you for commenting. You’re so welcome. I’m always happy when my words help others. I appreciate your support! I will be posting about my progress along the way π
And I will be peeping in your place, every now and then. π
Sounds good to me!
